In My Opinion there is nowhere in the world quite as scenic as the Canadian Rockies. From my own first hand experience here are my must see and do’s while experiencing this beautiful country.
- Drive the Columbia Icefields Parkway – the most scenic of all the routes though the Rockies (and that is saying something!) . Make sure you stop at the Athabasca Glacier for an Ice Explorer Tour which takes you out onto the glacier on board a huge Ice Explorer Snow Coach. You then get the opportunity to walk on the glacier, wrap up warm though – its pretty cold out there!!!
- Visit Lake Louise, known as the Jewel of the Canadian Rockies, the water is even bluer than it looks in the photos and you have to see it to believe it! Make sure you visit the beautiful Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise even if its just for a walk around the grounds or Afternoon Tea overlooking the Lake.
- Take a trip up to the top of Sulphur Mountain in Banff on the Banff Gondola cable car. The views over Banff and the surrounding mountains are breathtaking from the top.
- Take some time out to relax and spend an afternoon in the Miette Hot Springs in Jasper National Park. Very relaxing and the views that surround you while you’re in the pools are stunning – you won’t want to leave!!
- Take a boat cruise down Maligne Lake along to Spirit Island and take in the spectacular views of Jasper National Park along the way. Get your camera ready!
- While in Calgary take a trip up to the top of the Calgary Tower for views over this lovely city. Dare you step out onto the glass floor??
- If you like to be adventurous pay a visit to the Canada Olympic Park, home to the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. This is now the site for ski and snowboard lessons, bobsleigh rides, cycling and many more sports. Its also the place to ride the fastest zip-line in North America from the top of what was the ski jump in the Olympics (the one made famous by Eddie the Eagle!). I can tell you from experience its fast and an experience you will never forget! You can also see the Bob Sled made famous by the Jamaican Bobsleigh team.
- Make sure you take some time to wander down the main street in Banff which, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful towns in the world.
If you need any advice about the Rockies I will be happy to help you plan your dream trip to this beautiful area. Alison
