New York - The City that never sleeps.
Ellie from our Hull office has been jetting off to New York and Las Vegas to find out more about what these two famous cities in America have to offer and why people return to them.
From flying direct to JFK Ellie spent 2 nights in New York followed by 2 nights in Las Vegas. Whilst in New York I stayed at the Civilian Hotel, which is in the Theatre district. Every room in this hotel offers views over the city, plus it's within walking distant to Times Square.
A great place for drinks and views is the Virgin Hotel with it's roof top bar, and a great view of Empire State Building which is even more stunning at night when it is illuminated!
If you are up for an early starts the Empire State at sunrise, is breath-taking. The Summit One, Vanderbilt is new with its multi-sensory experiences, mirrored rooms and various art pieces, I've never seen anything like it!
Times Square, really does live up to its hype with high-end stores, restaurants and bars. Not far from there is Rockefeller Centre, with its famous Christmas Tree and ice rink, it was just reminded me of the film Home Alone.
For sunset we headed to the Edge, It has unobstructed views over New York City, as well as the glass floor that you can step onto - if you feel brave enough. Or if abseiling is your thing you can from the Edge maybe one to add to the bucket list!
The next morning we headed to Central Park, it is a really peaceful environment in the middle of such a vibrant, bustling city.
The highlight of my trip was 100% the Empire State Building at sunrise, the views were breath-taking.
Ellie's tip for New York: Wear comfortable shoes as there is a lot of walking! Buy a city pass as this is a really good way to see multiple attractions for a good price.
Las Vegas - More than just gambling.
After a 5 hour flight between New York and Las Vegas it was time to stay at the Virgin Hotel in Las Vegas, it is located just off the strip, so it felt relaxed but within seconds you are in the hustle and bustle of the strip.
The hotel featured a casino and nightclub along with a variety of restaurants and bars.
On our first day there was a visit to a new attraction ‘Area 15’. We were shown around the building and got to take part in 5 of the experiences. The artwork inside the building is breath taking, with a different attraction in every room therefore there is something for everyone to enjoy, it's truly unique.
From there we went onto to visit Downtown Vegas and Fremont Street which is where it all began. There are hotels in this area of Vegas, plus bars and gift shops.
Lunch was the Pizza Rock Diner, one for the list due to it having a great vibe. It was then onto the Mob Museum. Here you can see some of the actual weapons and crime scene photos. In the cellar there's a pub where you can have a signature cocktail or have a beer which they make in their own brewery.
Part of our stay included the flyover experience, a ride where you get to experience different landscapes, such as the Canadian Rockies, Iceland and wonders of the American West, again one to add to your list of things to do in Vegas.
The excitement wasn't over yet as he headed for our night-time helicopter ride over the Strip. Before our 15 minute flight we had champagne and with only 4 other people we felt each of us were well taken care of, the pilot makes you feel at ease and explains what is going to happen, plus with only a small group it doesn't matter where you sit you still get a good view.
The next morning it was time to head out on our Red Rock Canyon tour with Pink Jeep. It was very educational and the guides with this company are very knowledgeable about the Canyon. We were shown hand prints on the rocks from the locals who had grown up there and informed about the importance of the Canyon to them.
Lunch was taken in the Venetian Hotel, the theme is Venice with Gondolas which sail on a re-created Grand Canal, there is even a sky on the ceiling. The hotel features designer shops and amazing restaurants. We dined in Milos, a Greek restaurant and I can highly recommend the food.
My highlight of Vegas was the helicopter ride, it's a must do! Ellie's tip for Vegas: Stay on the strip or like I did just slightly off as you are close to everything.
