Lake Garda is one of my favourite destinations in the world!! There are a number of reasons for this – the scenery, which is out of this world and the Italian food are probably the main two!!!
We stayed in the town of Malcesine which is one of the busier Lake towns. It has beautiful cobbled streets, little markets, lovely restaurants and great access to the rest of the Lake.
I would recommend staying Bed & Breakfast as there are so many amazing restaurants to choose from for your evening meal. We had some lovely meals on the lake side with stunning views and eating plenty of pizza and pasta and Italian Ice Cream!!! Not forgetting the Italian wines either of course!
There is ferry access to most of the rest of the lake from Malcesine. We spent an afternoon in Limone which is just opposite Malcesine but you can also visit Riva, Garda and many other towns using this excellent service.
One of my favourite days was when we caught the Cable Car up Monte Baldo to the top of the mountain. The views up there are amazing (although the weather is totally different to down by the lake so take a jacket!) There is nothing up there apart from one café and shop, its just mountains and grass as far as you can see – I felt like I was in the Sound of Music!! The cable car can be caught from the back of the resort which is only a 5 minute walk from the town centre so its easily accessible and well worth a visit.
The castle in Malcesine dominates the sky line and is worth a visit to learn more about the history of the town. It is also a popular wedding venue and I can’t think of anywhere more beautiful to get married than at the top of Malcesine castle overlooking Lake Garda.
We stayed at the newly refurbished hotel Casa Barca which is a 4* hotel on the outskirts of the town. It took us about 15 minutes to walk to the centre from our hotel but it was worth the walk as they have a beautiful pool which you will struggle to find in the centre as space is at a premium with all the small streets. I cannot recommend this hotel enough, the service was excellent nothing is too much trouble for the owners at this family run hotel. The rooms are smart and clean and the view we had was just stunning. As I write it is currently rated number 1 on Trip Advisor with 5* reviews across the board and I don’t disagree with this!
Please contact me if you need any advice on Lake Garda or if you wish to get married there as I specialize in weddings abroad so can look after everything for your big day!
