If you’re looking for something a little different… then Rome has a lot to offer in terms of culture. It was once thought as the centre of the world as after 500BC it became a republic and from then on blossomed into a place for philosophy, arts, music and law. Since then, it has become a tourist hot spot for history lovers and more commonly ‘foodies’.
Where do we recommend staying?
In terms of pricing, there is something to suit everyone’s budget in Rome. The three hotels we rank highly are: One Park Hotel; Roma Trasteverina B&B and finally Artemide Hotel.
One Park Hotel:
Located outside the centre of Rome, this is a little more affordable for those visiting Rome on a budget. This does mean a 20 minute train ride into Rome Termini station for those wanting to explore the city centre. You also have other options of bus or walking. The hotel itself boasts a swimming pool with a good variety of options for breakfast. So perhaps if you’re looking to spend only a few days in the centre- this would be ideal as you can retire to countryside like oasis.
Roma Trasteverina B&B:
Rated extremely highly on TripAdvisor. Very well located in the centre of Rome (about a 20 minute walk to Piazza Navona where you can enjoy Bernini’s five rivers fountain). This hotel is situated in a non-tourist part of town, meaning you can drink and eat as a local would. The hotel itself is ran by a man named Giorgio who keeps it to the upmost standard.
Artemide Hotel:
Our most highly rated hotel in Rome. It’s perfect for first time Rome go-ers as it is only 10 minutes from the Termini Train station- meaning you can get to your hotel as quick as possible from the airport. It’s only 10 minutes to the Colosseum, Roman Forum and less than 1 minute to the biggest shopping street in Rome (Via Nazionale).
What do we recommend to do?
Be a gladiator and take on the world’s most famous combat location- the Colosseum.
Explore the churches of Rome on foot (most are free) and marvel in the Baroque works of Bernini
Take your chances on ‘The Mouth of Truth’ to step into a black and white film with Audrey Hepburn and relive the famous scene from Roman Holiday
Save money by eating the Tourist Menu (if you want a deal) or eat the locals street food to improve your taste buds
Visit a rooftop restaurant to enjoy the sites of Rome at a relaxing distance
Rest your feet on the Spanish Steps and take in the sights between shopping
Visit St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums to fully immerse yourself in the history and religion of Rome and understand why it is the head of the Catholic Church
Marvel in the Great Masters of Italian art as Leonardo Da Vinci, Raphael and Michelangelo all spent the highlights of their careers working in Rome
Walk through the Piazzas to enjoy the music on a night time- save yourself some money by not choosing to sit here for dinner (extra fees apply for music)
