This is a crossroads of ancient trade routes and the birthplace of Sinbad; it is land of contrast which holds onto its culture and way of life.
Muscat is the capital of Oman with one of the largest souks in the United Arab Emirates Muttrah Souk. There's plenty to see in Muscat with the Sultan's Palace; Al Alam Palace, understand the history of this amazing land in the Bait Al Zubair museum and wander around the Grand Mosque Sultan Qaboos.
Be stunned by the views on a boat trip at the Bandar Khayran Reserve where the rocky shores and white-washed houses sit by the edge of the SeaOman. Here you can see the coral reefs, swarming with underwater life and you see nature with several species of turtles laying on the sandy shores. Muscat’s Al Mirani Fort is from the 16th-century and is perched high on rocky cliffs looking out over the sea.
Just outside Muscat you will find the Wadis; Wadi Al Arbiyeen is a winding valley in the side of Al Hajar Mountains known for its cool, deep pools and its four villages, which cultivate palm trees, bananas, lemon and mango trees.
Also south of Muscat, the Wadi Sireen Reserve is home to a variety of wildlife, including one of the rarest animals in Oman, the Arabian Tahr. Or venture to Wadi Al Khoudh, considered to be one of the largest wadi basins in the Sultanate, where reviving pools are formed following heavy rain.
There are few better ways to experience the true variety of Oman than exploring these diverse valleys. At night in Muscat you will find English style pubs, traditional shisha bars and coffees shops scattered around the Corniche. This harbour walk during the day is where you can see the waterfalls, beautiful gardens and fish market and for those who like shopping there are plenty of shopping malls in Muscat.
Oman really is a land of contrasts with a rich heritage, beautiful scenery and all year round sunshine.
